As a former D1 athlete, I witnessed my teammates relying on pre-workout supplements and energy drinks during workouts and training. After trying some of these products myself, I found the short-term performance boosts to be very beneficial, but the following crashes in energy and the side effects on my body to not be worth it in the long run.
I spent a lot of time trying to find healthier alternatives, however every product I came across seemed to have a layer of unnecessary synthetic blends, additives, sweeteners, and/or other artificial ingredients. It makes total sense too – these ingredients are cheaper, more readily available, and easier to produce.
A close friend shared the same observation. Having always eaten very natural, nutrient-dense diets, we both knew the power of real foods and, since nobody else was making what we were looking for, we set out to do it ourselves.
